To be fair, Rhodesian accents are a bit confusing to other English speakers.

Errr, that’s not what a Rhodesian accent sounds like. He was attempting an Afrikaner accent and I’m a native speaker of Afrikaans hence why it was jarring. He sounded like an English guy attempting an Afrikaans accent, he went a little too heavy on this pronunciations.
Edit: Also my BIL is Rhodesian and the vast majority of white Rhodesians are/were native English speakers as Rhodesia was a British colony from the beginning where as the Cape started out as a Dutch colony and the Dutch settlers moved inland to found their own Boer Republics
once the English took over the Cape.

I know, but he was supposed to be portraying a Rhodesian accent, on account of his character being Rhodesian. Maybe he was trying to sound like a Rhodesian pretending to have an Afrikaaners accent? Who knows, but the accent was confusing.
I once took a rifle course with a guy from Rhodesia. Interesting stories from that dude.

Trevor Noah puts it best:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
He may be playing a Rhodesian, but his accent is definitely (and very badly)
South
African.
My BIL’s older brother fought in Angola with the SADF Armored Corps against
the Soviets, he has some wild stories. He’d be rolling through the bush with his Ratel, then
pop into a clearing and would
be face to face with a T72 and would have seconds to reacte. Thankfully for him the Ratel’s turret system moved faster than the T72 otherwise he’d not be here.
